Behind Enemy Lines – 5 Star Recruits and OU Notes

We look at what's going on with some of Texas' biggest rivals, both on the field and in the world of recruiting.

Texas A&M (142 Days until)

  1. RECRUITING – 5-Star Lamar Brown, DL from University Lab, LA
    • From AggieYell: “The biggest (literally and figuratively) player left on A&M’s recruiting board is 5-star defensive tackle Lamar Brown of Baton Rouge, who will commit at 12:15 p.m. Central time on Thursday. The question of who he’s going to commit to is about as big as he is.
      • Brown is the lone defensive tackle that the Aggies are seriously after for 2026, so whether they get him or not, they’re likely going to look for veterans in the transfer portal.
  2. OFFSEASON – Positions that AggieYell worried about the Aggies in 2026? (Mark Passwaters)
    • On offense, Passwaters is worried about the wide receiver position. If Terry Bussey is healthy and breaks out and Jerome Myles is as good as advertised, then I won’t be.
    • On defense, defensive tackle still terrifies me, but I could be overreacting. Passwaters is not sold at all on cornerback depth, and expects to see a freshman, Adonyss Currie? — out there sooner as opposed to later.

Georgia (129 Days until)

  1. RECRUITING – 5-Star Kaiden Prothro, TE from Bowdon, GA
    • From DawgsHQ’s Rusty Mansell: “5-star pass catcher Kaiden Prothro and his recruitment with a decision coming on Saturday. You always take a team like Texas seriously, and the UGA fan base found that out last year with Justus Terry. I talked to someone yesterday who is very close to this on the Bowdon side of things, and they would be shocked if he ends up anywhere other than Georgia. You never say never in this world today, but Georgia is in a good spot as this gets closer.”
    • From Chad Simmons: “Georgia is the home state school, Kaiden Prothro has taken double-digit visits to Athens, and he has strong relationships with the staff, but Texas continues to battle. The Longhorns got in this race a little late, but it only takes one visit to Austin to quickly change things. There is some level of optimism in Austin, but the confidence remains strong at Georgia that they can keep the in-state target home. Prothro will make a decision on July 12.”
    • From DawgsHQ’s Jake Rowe: You can’t call a guy a “lock” anymore, and we never really did that anyway. – With that said, after speaking with some very good sources, I’m going to echo what Rusty posted within a thread earlier today. Georgia, as of today, is in a very good spot for the 5-star pass catcher.

Oklahoma (94 Days until)

  1. Who will be the Next Athletic Director? (Parker Thune)
    • Michael Alford
      • The current athletic director at Florida State, Alford, has done a tremendous job navigating the Seminoles out of some financial ruts since taking the job in 2021.
