Few recruits in the 2027 recruiting class, if any, experienced the type of successful spring that Kennedy Brown enjoyed. How good were things for the Kingwood product? Brown was so successful on the spring camp circuit that he vaulted all the way up to the No. 1 player in the country according to the Rivals Industry Rankings.
Needless to say, Brown is happy with the recognition. Now, he says, he has to back up the lofty rankings and even continue to improve as he tries to claim the top ranking spot in all the national services.
“It feels great,” Brown said. “I’d say this is just the start. The only place I can go from here is up. I’m going to strive for that every day.”
Kennedy Brown continues to fine tune his craft
The 6-4, 285-pound Brown has offers from programs all over the country. He’s earned the lofty recruiting ranking, but he says he still has plenty of room to improve. Brown works with offensive line coach Jacob Bragg in the offseason and continues to work on the finer details of the tackle position.
“I’d say I’m good on run blocking. Actually not good, great. Pass pro, there’s still more to work on,” Brown said. “I’m not complacent. I can work on being patient, more patient hands in pass pro.”
This spring, Brown put his talents on display at an Under Armour Camp in Houston, where he dominated the competition on his way to earning camp MVP honors. He then backed up that performance in the summer with another strong showing at the Under Armour Future 50.
Texas is a school that’s a strong contender for Kennedy Brown
Like most programs, the Texas Longhorns have made Brown a top priority in the 2027 class. Offensive line coach Kyle Flood has remained in close contact with Brown and analyst Derron Gatewood was in touch with Brown on Monday.
“They fit up there. They’re really up there,” Brown said of the Longhorns. “Texas is a great school. I was talking to coach Gatewood today.
“Really and truly, we’re just building this relationship. He mainly talked to me about making it out to a game.”
Brown has been on the Texas campus multiple times and has friends on the Texas team, including Nate Kibble and Ty Boatright. He’s planning to return to Austin for a game in the fall.
“I’ve been there a couple of times. I love the campus, love the coaches,” Brown said. “Coach Flood has been producing great O-linemen over the past few years. I like how they treat me. It’s like family when I go here. I’ve continued to build a relationship with coach Flood.”
Proximity won’t be a factor in Kennedy Brown’s eventual decision
Along with a Texas home game, Brown said he may try to hit the Longhorns’ season opener at Ohio State. He’s still working out plans for either that game or LSU-Clemson in week one. He plans to be at the Georgia-Tennessee game in September, and trips to places like Oregon and Nebraska are also being considered.
Schools like Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, TCU and Texas Tech are among the in-state programs that are in pursuit of Brown, but he said he’s not locked into staying in the Lone Star State.
“Whatever place that will develop me O-line-wise. Whatever school prepares me for the next level,” Brown said of the factor that will be most important in his decision.
