It’s not You, It’s Us…

Once upon a time this summer, it looked like the Longhorns and Centennial (Ca.) Corona tight end Keawe Brown might end up getting married on the recruiting trail. To listen to Browne tell the story, he was all set to commit to the Longhorns this month, but the Longhorns told him to hold off while they worked out the 2026 numbers game and on Sunday Browne seemed to understood what that message really meant.
“I appreciate the staff at Texas for offering me and bringing my family on an official visit this summer,” Browne said on his socials. “However, with recent changes in my recruitment and further interest from other universities, my family and those close to me believe it is in my best interest to re-open my recruiting. I will be moving on from the University of Texas.”
While the Longhorns are looking for an impact tight end in the 2026 recruiting class, they are currently in big game hunting mode and this is an implication of what likely awaits any prospect that isn’t viewed as big game hunting at this stage of the process.
Most Important Prospect in 2027 Sounds Off

Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but the best prospect in next year’s recruiting class is a 5-star offensive tackle and he might just bigger and better than the last guy.
Yes, we’ve done this before.
But, Kingwood tackle Kennedy Brown is absolutely that good and in an interview with Sam Spiegelman of Rivals, he dished on the Longhorns.
“Their team is amazing,” said Brown, who has forged strong connections to multiple offensive linemen in Austin, including Nate Kibble and Colin Simmons. “Their team is truly great. Coach Flood is very down-to-earth. He’ll chew you out, but he gets you to where you want to be. He’s not gonna over-complicate things. Coach (Derron) Gatewood will talk to me about everything — from drills to giving advice. Coach Sark has been FaceTiming me, talking about the season … I love it.
“They produce to the NFL and they’ve shown that,” Brown continued. “Every time I see it, that attracts me more to Texas. They’ve been consistent and I like it.”
There’s a long way to go in his recruitment, but Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, Clemson, UGA, SMU and Penn State are all under careful consideration at the moment.
Texas Fading for Benjamin?

In another update on Rivals, national analyst Steve Wiltfong didn’t mention Texas among super blue chip cornerback Davon Benjamin’s Top 2 with a decision expected on August 2nd.
Wiltfong wrote: “It’s decision week for Rivals No. 1 ranked cornerback Davon Benjamin. My prediction remains on Oregon, but as I’ve written over the last month Michigan is giving him plenty to think about.”
