There aren’t many uncommitted targets left on the board for the Texas Longhorns, but one of the country’s best prospects has set a commitment date, and the Longhorns are one of three teams that are still in the race.
IMG Academy standout Jake Kreul, who has a final three of Texas, Oklahoma and Ole Miss, will announce his decision on August 12 on ESPN’s College Football Live. The 6-2, 223-pound Kreul took official visits to all three programs in June.
Texas surging at the right time for Kreul?
Over the course of most of the summer, most of the focus in Kreul’s recruitment seemed to favor the Sooners to eventually land the dynamic pass rusher. Texas and Ole Miss have continued to plug away and in recent weeks, there’s been more talk that the Longhorns have made this one interesting, and Kreul to OU isn’t exactly a foregone conclusion.
Texas EDGE coach LaAllan Clark has shown in his first year in Austin that he’s an aggressive recruiter, including landing a commitment from 5-star prospect Richie Wesley. Now, Clark will try to add Kreul to the UT commitment list.
Longhorns’ official visit made a strong impression on Kreul
Following his round of official visits in June, Kreul told Orangebloods.com that the race was “really close” and he said his Texas visit really moved the mark.
“I think the highlights were sitting down with coach Clark, going over development and his plan for me,” Kreul said. “Getting to meet the players and everything, seeing how they do things, and getting to talk to coach PK, those were probably the things that stuck out to me the most.”
Along with his three finalists, Kreul also took official visits to Florida and Ohio State. A four-star prospect, Kreul ranks No. 41 on the Rivals Industry Ranking, which takes into account the rankings of Rivals, 247 and ESPN.
