This score has shifted a little bit in the last 10 days. For the majority of the summer, I was sitting at 31-13, obviously with OSU scoring a touchdown and two field goals. As good as Texas’ defense was against Jeremiah Smith in the semi-final, I’m not sure they will be able to keep him out of the End Zone again.
If you take away that 75-yard screen to TreVeyon Henderson before halftime, Ohio State threw for just 214 yards, Will Howard’s 5th fewest in a game last year. Texas suffocates Julian Sayin, reeling off a 6 sack performance and turning the ball over twice. But Jeremiah Smith and Freshman Bo Jackson each score in the 2nd half to make it a game.

It should be a great game and I expect both defenses to give each QB some trouble early on. Manning weathers the storm and Texas wins by a field goal.

A first time starting quarterback taking on one of the best defenses in the country is a lot to ask. Doing it in the first game of the season is an almost impossible task. And no, I’m not talking about Arch, I’m talking about Julian Sayin. Add in the fact that RB James Peoples is no TreyVeyon Henderson or Quinshon Judkins and I don’t see how Ohio State puts up many points.

I think Texas scores one more touchdown than Ohio State.

I’m predicting a Texas Longhorns win over Ohio State. That said, I’m not exactly standing on the table and pounding the drum for this pick. There are still unknowns. We don’t know if Texas has a group of elite receivers ready to step up in Columbus. This Ohio State defense held Tre Wisner to just 17 carries for 46 yards (2.7 per attempt) in the last meeting. CJ Baxter is back, but he averaged 4.8 yards per carry in 2023. And the offensive line remains a question mark.
Where I will stand on the table is for Pete Kwiatkowski’s defense. Texas might have one of the best units in the country. This defense should generate turnovers, get off the field on third down, and give the Longhorns a chance to extend their 11-game win streak.

I hate going against Vegas, which has Texas as slight underdogs, but I’m going with the more experienced quarterback and what should be a stellar Texas defense. This one goes down to the wire but the Longhorns get the tough road win.
