When asked about his 4th down tendencies through his career, Sarksiaian said, “I’ve always tended to be on the aggressive side on 4th down, a lot of that is predicated on the score and your defense. Over the last 4-6 years, analytics has shifted a lot of peoples thoughts. I’ll say analytics has helped reinforce where my gut is during a lot of situations. At times, you can lean into the analytics, but the majority of it is — we lean towards the aggressive side, and that comes from me cutting my teeth with Pete Carroll. — It’s not reckless, it’s thoughtful.”
When asked about the first fourth down against Ohio State, Sarkisian said: “The first one we Quarterback sneaked and got it for a first down. The second one was a 4th and 2, I felt really good about that hash and that call, the book reaffirmed to go for it. I was already committed to that with the moment of the game, and the book just reaffirmed that.”
2025 Backup Quarterback Update
Sark was asked about the Backup Quarterback Competition and if anyone had one the job: “That’s a very fluid situation, from week to week. We give each of those guys opportunities. In last week’s game, it would have been Matt Caldwell who played if anything had happened to Arch.”
“I think there are a lot of factors in the backup Quarterback role. Managing the team game plan, where they are physically, mentally, and getting the guy out there that gives us the chances for the most success.”
Emmett Mosley V Injury Update
Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian said Emmett Mosely V will continue to be limited in practice this week before facing San Jose State on Saturday. Emmett will have a chance to play, Sarkisian told the media on Thursday. “We are monitoring him closely, if he does go Saturday, it will be in a limited fashion, I’m going to lean into our staff to continue monitoring his recovery. Emmett is chomping at the bit to play.”

Coach Sarkisian was asked, What did you learn from your Offensive and Defensive Lines? “I was honestly impressed with our LOS play. If you had told me we’d have walked out of that game with almost 170 yards on the ground and holding them to 2.3 yards per carry, and given up 1 sack. I just wish we could have affected the Quarterback more on the defensive side of the ball. I think for the first time playing with 4 new starters on the OL and a lot of new faces on the defensive front, they played well.”
