Oklahoma Sooners (32 days since)
1. TRUE FRESHMAN – Tory Blaylock, RB: He’s totaled 68 yards on 17 carries and one touchdown.
– “It was a lot of preparation to prepare for these moments,” Blaylock said on Monday. “A lot of film study with the older guys helped me out a lot in the room — Jovantae Barnes, Jaydn Ott. Everybody pitched in. They know how hard it is to play as a true freshman. But everybody contributed, and that made it easier for me.”
– Blaylock said the game has really slowed down for him since he got on campus in January. He’s also put on 15 pounds over the last seven months, preparing him for the SEC.
– Blaylock’s best attribute for Oklahoma is that he’s showcased so far is his toughness, said SoonerScoop’s George Stoia. Everyone knows about his speed, as he was a part of Atascocita High School’s Texas Class 6A state championship-winning 4×100-relay team that broke the national record with a time of 38.92.
2. FRESHMAN MVP vs. MICHIGAN – Michael Fasusi, OT:
– “Oh my, I was just telling him in there, he was amazing,” Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer said. “He dominated. It was great pass pro and we were able to run the ball. I mean he’s a good player as young, though, and I’m really proud of him.”
– “Everybody was waiting to see what Fasusi could do. The wait was worth it. Just a freshman, but already that type of player.” – George Stoia, SoonerScoop
3. RECRUITING – Steve Wiltfong Updates on Oklahoma:
– I continue to like where the Oklahoma Sooners stand with the Rivals Industry’s No. 8 quarterback Peyton Houston after talking sources that spent time with him in Norman over the weekend. The buzz has faded from USC over the last two weeks and has shifted toward head coach Brent Venables and company.
– Houston looks like Oklahoma’s top target on the offensive side of the ball. Over the weekend they also hosted perhaps their most coveted target on defense in Rivals’ No. 1 ranked linebacker Cooper Witten. The Sooners are going to have a great shot to land the Argyle (Texas) Liberty Christian standout as well.
– Rivals No. 1 cornerback in five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson says he can’t wait to come back to campus after a terrific experience.
