I exchanged some texts with Texas defensive tackle commitment Corey Wells this afternoon/evening. Wells will be in Austin for the game on Saturday.
Why is that interesting, exactly?
Remember, Wells took an unofficial visit to Auburn the weekend of September 5 and he came out of that weekend saying very positive things about Auburn. He accompanied his brother, Chris Wells, who was brought in by Auburn that weekend on an official visit. Chris is a linebacker who is currently committed to South Alabama, but most expected he’d be flipping to Auburn and likely bringing Corey with him.
Well, Chris will be joining Corey on the visit to Austin this weekend. We’ll dig around and see how that trip goes, but Corey said Texas has started recruiting his brother. If that holds true and if the staff decides to prioritize Chris and extend an offer, that would obviously help the Longhorns’ chances of hanging on to Corey’s commitment, and possibly even adding a linebacker to the 2026 commitment list if Chris wanted to join Corey in Austin.
Corey Wells is part of a four-man defensive tackle class for Texas, joining J.J. Johnson, Vodney Cleveland and Dylan Berymon. Wells committed to Texas in early June, shortly after taking his Longhorns’ official visit.
