Just a Bit Outside: I was wrong about this team … or was I?

Back in the 90’s, I was home in Dallas on leave from the Navy and I decided to go clubbing with some friends.  We all headed out to Fish Dance and started having a good time.

I was on the dance floor getting my groove on when I looked over and saw two hot girls dancing next to me.

I looked over at them.

They looked over at me.

I flashed a big smile.

They started laughing.

Apparently, my dance moves were as bad as my self-doubting fears believed they were.

It was a humbling moment, to say the least.  It was also the last time I ever went clubbing.  I don’t really consider that a big loss, I never liked clubbing or dancing anyway, but it was still embarrassing.

Fish Dance is long closed, but the feeling of being humbled still lingers.

I got humbled in Dallas again this past week after writing last week that it was time to look ahead to 2026.

“Last week everybody’s going to write, how we stink, you’re no good, let’s look at 2026 and what are they going to look like,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said Monday.  “This week everybody’s going to write about how great we all are again.  It doesn’t matter what people write or say, it’s about what we do.  I think that’s a lesson learned for us.  It’s about the maturity of our team.  This is a great week for us to show the maturity of how far we’ve come as a team.”
