Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian was asked about Michael Terry’s switch to running back during his conference call on Thursday. Here was the question and Sarkisian’s response:
Q: With Jerrick Gibson gone, you’ve got a guy like Michael Terry – he was Mr. Do-It-All in high school. He literally did everything. Is he someone you’ll give a look at running back? Will he get some reps there this week?
Sarkisian: “We’re starting to work with him there. We knew when we recruited Michael that he was a really versatile guy. He was a Wildcat quarterback, a running back, a receiver, and even played some tight end. We just felt like we had to start him somewhere, and we started him at receiver. I think that was a great learning curve for him.
“He’s now in the running back room, and he’s been very impressive. He’s been playing some scout-team running back for about the last three weeks or so. So he’s been doing it, but now he’s officially in the room. We’ll see if he’s ready for Saturday or if it takes more time.
“But again, he’s kind of like Ryan Niblett – when you can learn all of the offense, you can become a real weapon. Is he lining up at wide receiver? Is he lining up at running back? Is he motioning in or out of both? That can create some opportunities for you as we continue to grow his role.
“I’ve been thoroughly impressed with Michael. He’s an unbelievable athlete, very smart, and I think he’s a guy who’s going to help us as we continue to expand his role in the program.”
