This has been the best job of coaching in Steve Sarkisian’s career.
Oh, sure, this hasn’t been his best year. This team has a LOT of flaws. And while Texas may be 6-2 right now, it is fully capable of losing every single game left on the schedule.
But this season, perhaps because of all of the exposed warts, has shown just how good a coach Sark is. Texas’ comeback win over Mississippi State is a great example of why this has been Sark’s best season of coaching.
Texas was down 17 points going into the fourth quarter but at no point did the team ever give up.
“What you do is, ‘hey, play the next play, one play at a time, continue to fight, get refocused,’” Sarkisian said after the game. “If I said it one time, I said it a hundred times, ‘keep fighting – resettle – refocus,’ ‘keep fighting – resettle – refocus,’ ‘keep fighting – resettle – refocus.’”
It is the second week in a row that Sark and the boys had to overcome a poor start and find a way to win.
“We can’t keep living like this, right,” Sarkisian rhetorically asked the press after the game.
The answer to that question is obviously not. But Sark made some decisions during the game that helped lead the team to victory after that slow start.
