The start of the 2026 baseball season is merely a week away and today marks another milestone as the SEC preseason coaches poll was released, ranking Texas Baseball as one of the favorites to win the conference in 2026. Fresh off a successful 2025 campaign, Texas Baseball enters the 2026 season ranked No. 3 nationally in the D1Baseball.com preseason poll, reinforcing the Longhorns’ status as one of college baseball’s premier programs.
The lofty ranking reflects both postseason momentum and a roster built to contend immediately in the SEC. Texas returns impact talent on both sides of the ball and blends veteran leadership with proven depth, positioning the Longhorns as a national title threat entering the spring. The Horns were just one of four teams that received a first-place vote to win the SEC title alongside conference heavyweights such as LSU, Mississippi State, and Arkansas.
That confidence is echoed at the conference level, where Texas landed a co-league-best five selections on the SEC Preseason All-SEC Team. Left-hander Dylan Volantis earned First Team honors after anchoring the pitching staff, while Carson Tinney, Ethan Mendoza, Max Grubbs, and Thomas Burns were all named to the Second Team, highlighting the program’s balance across multiple positions.
With expectations high, the Longhorns will officially open the 2026 season on Friday, February 13, hosting UC Davis at 6:30 p.m. at UFCU Disch–Falk Field. The opener marks the first step in what projects to be one of the most anticipated seasons in recent program history.
Texas will look to turn preseason respect into results as it begins its pursuit of another SEC title and a deep postseason run.
