The Sunday Pulpit: Let’s Get The Party Started

All eyes will be on Atlanta starting Monday, and not because Beyoncé is performing at Mercedes-Benz Stadium this week. SEC Media Days are here, marking the beginning of our holiday season. Think of it like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade: once Santa shows up, it’s go time. Of course, if your wife is one of those people, she probably started decorating the minute Halloween ended. For the rest of us, this is the cue to dust off the good china— by that, I mean your favorite burnt-orange polo. Now, I’m not saying SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey is Santa Claus. But let’s be honest: Texas joining the SEC is the most generous, endlessly renewable gift a Longhorn fan could ever ask for. When Sankey kicks things off on Monday and Steve Sarkisian hits the stage Tuesday, bringing Arch Manning, Michael Taaffe, and Anthony Hill Jr. with him, it’s our official signal: football is coming. Training camp opens July 28, and the season opener against Ohio State looms on August 30. Let’s get this party started.
