The SEC officially released the 2026 conference schedule today, giving Texas Baseball fans a glimpse into what lies ahead as the Horns look to repeat as regular season champions in their quest for another trip to Omaha.

The SEC slate has Texas playing five familiar teams but will provide the opportunity to face five new teams as well. Texas will once again play Oklahoma, Mississippi State, Missouri, Auburn, and Texas A&M during the 2026 season, but the Horns will not face the likes of LSU, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, or Florida. Instead, the Horns will take on Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Alabama, and South Carolina.

Yes, Texas played Ole Miss and Tennessee last season, but not during SEC conference play. The Horns run ruled Ole Miss in Arlington in the second game of the season, giving Jim Schlossnagle his first victory at Texas. At the opposite end of the spectrum, the Horns lost to Tennessee in their lone game at the Met in Hoover as the Vols outlasted Texas in 12 innings, knocking them out of the SEC Tournament.

The home series for Texas Baseball will consist of Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Alabama, Mississippi State, and Missouri, while the Horns will be on the road against Auburn, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, and Tennessee.

On paper, the Horns schedule is easier in 2026 than it was in 2025, as they avoid both Arkansas, LSU, and Georgia, which made up three of the top five teams in the SEC and were the #3, #6, and #7 national seeds. The Tigers of LSU also went on to win their 8th national championship, putting them two ahead of Texas and just four behind the all-time leader Southern California.

While they do avoid those three teams, the Horns will still play Auburn who was the #4 national seed, Ole Miss who was the #10 national seed, Tennessee who was the #14 national seed, and of course Vanderbilt, last season’s #1 overall national seed.

As mentioned above, on paper, 2026 is easier than 2025 from a scheduling standpoint, but no two teams are the same season over season and where the games are played certainly plays a factor. Texas played their toughest matchups at home in 2025, as LSU, Georgia, Auburn, Texas A&M, and Florida all had to come to Austin. The tables are reversed in 2026 as the Horns will have to travel to Auburn, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, and Tennessee. That is very tough slate compared to home series against Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Alabama, Mississippi State, and Missouri.

Looking further into the SEC schedule, the Horns do not play Texas A&M, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, and Tennessee until the second half of the season. That can be a double edge sword, depending upon how the season plays out. Texas will have plenty of time to gel and define roles before hitting the toughest stretch of the season, but the end of the season schedule will be a brutal grind that they will have to overcome.

The biggest takeaway for the 2026 season is that Texas Longhorn fans will have some awesome opportunities to travel and see the Horns play. Travel to Auburn, Columbia, Nashville, and Knoxville all offer interesting trips. The tailgating in Auburn is outstanding. Columbia is a great town to visit some wonderful nearby sights to see. Nashville for the hot chicken and bars of course and then there is a visit to the biggest little league stadium in the country. Knoxville is a great college town to visit and should be a fun trip for fans of baseball.

The lone away weekend that many Texas fans will have strong emotions about will be College Station, for obvious reasons. One absolute low light to the away schedule though is having to listen to the Vandy whistler in person. Invest in some noise cancelling headphones or else risk your sanity at your own peril.
