Texas Longhorn Baseball continues to recruit at a very high level, this time reeling in a commitment from New Mexico’s JJ Utash, one of the Top 40 national prospects for the 2027 class.
Utash is known for his hit tool and he certainly has continued to show off why he is such a highly regarded commit during events such as Area Codes Games, where he was one of the best hitters. While he plays OF and pitches, his bat has the highest projection and with a 6’4 210lb frame, he is a guy that has outstanding potential with consistent exit velos over 100 and a great eye for the ball.
Dustin McComas of Five Tool wrote the following about Utash after seeing him live at Area Code Games, “Utash looks the part of a physical masher. He crouches in his stance, which helps him get some of his lower half into his swing and he clears his hands/elbows easily with a fast, fluid swing that repeatedly caught the ball out front and pulled pitches.” During the Area Code Games, he was named Player of the Week for his loud performance!
Already considered a Top 40 national prospect by Perfect Game, Utash has the ability to end up as one of the best right handed bats in the 2027 class as he continues to develop and refine.
