Texas Longhorn Baseball continues their hot streak on the recruiting trail as they reel in OF Ira Rootman of Harvard-Westlake (CA). One of the top outfielders in California and the nation, Rootman is a physical athlete with an outstanding hit tool. During Area Code Games this summer, Rootman was one of the top position prospects and showed off his sub 6.60 speed and bat speed at the plate. Defensively, Rootman has a very solid arm and is comfortable both in CF and the corners. With the commitment of Rootman, Texas Baseball now has two of the top ten prospects in California committed for the 2027 class.
When asked what it was about Texas that led him to commit, Ira stated, “I wanted a place where I will be continuously driven, motivated, and WIN…I felt everyone one of those aspects [at Texas]. Excited to work with Coach Schloss, the staff, and the team.”
While the 2027 class has a long way to go before it makes campus, it is hard not be excited about an outfield combination of JJ Utash and Ira Rootman, both of whom bring outstanding hit tools to the plate and a desire to compete and win.
The Horns are now up to ten commits in the 2027 class and continue to host a number of top prospects as they build out one of the top classes in the nation under the guidance of recruiting coordinator and associate head coach Nolan Cain.
