Monday night insider notes

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and the UT staff continue to find new ways to navigate an ever-changing college football landscape.

I have kept my phone on the charger since Saturday because of the numerous text messages and phone calls over the weekend. I am at the point where I can share a few things I have learned over the past few days:

* Everyone I spoke to said they believe Arch Manning is just pressing too much, and there is optimism that he will be fine. Nobody expected Manning to face this challenge in year three. However, they are diligently working to help him get through this difficult stretch.

* In addition, people behind the scenes believe this is the first time Manning has faced pressure and severe criticism, which is adding to the weight on his shoulders. Again, they are trying to use this start as a teachable moment and build his confidence. It is all about positivity with Manning behind the scenes.

* I was told to look up Joe Burrow’s stats in 2018 before his breakout season in 2019:

* Everyone believes Manning will be fine, but this is just part of the development process. Does that mean this season will be a building block for 2026? Nobody is willing to wave the white flag after three starts this season.

* One thing to keep an eye on is the eventual return of Tre Wisner, CJ Baxter, DeAndre Moore, and Emmett Mosley V. I was told that having a few more experienced playmakers will help Manning.

* Sarkisian has been focused on building the confidence of his team. He is taking all the bullets in an effort to protect his players. However, when it comes to the run game, I was told the backs need to hit the right holes — that’s not on Sarkisian.

* Everyone is telling me that Sarkisian is calling the right plays on offense. However, the lack of execution has been the main issue. That is something the staff is diligently working to clean up.

* Nobody is hitting the panic button. This team is viewed as a work in progress, but there is a lot of faith that these stumbling blocks will eventually turn into stepping stones for success this season.
