Top Longhorns’ targets/commits set to head to Austin this weekend

Texas will host a number of top prospects at Saturday's game against Sam Houston, including commitment J.J. Johnson.

Miami Northwestern defensive tackle James "JJ" Johnson.

Some notable Texas targets/commitments who have confirmed they’ll be in town for this week’s game …

2026 prospects of note

RB Derrek Cooper – Chaminade Madonna – Texas commitment – Official visit – Miami isn’t going away but this weekend should be good for the Longhorns. Cooper previews his visit here.

DT JJ Johnson – Miami Northwestern – Texas commitment β€“ Pretty much the same story as Derrek Cooper.

DT Corey Wells – Petal (MS) – Texas commitment – This one’s interesting. Might come down to how Texas handles his brother, Chris. More on Wells’ visit here.

LB Chris Wells – Petal (MS) – See above. How aggressive will Texas be here?

CB Samari Matthews – Cornelius Hough – Texas commitment β€“ He’s locked in with the Longhorns.

DT Dylan Berymon – Monroe (LA) Ouachita Parish – Texas commitment – Just took an Ole Miss visit last week, so worth monitoring.

LB Braylon Hodge – Cherry Creek (CO) – Michigan State commitment – Unofficial visit and he’ll return for an OV in November. I like the Longhorns’ standing here.

2027 prospects of note

QB Kavian Bryant – Palestine Westwood – Texas is battling programs like Texas Tech and Florida State here.

TE Ahmad Hudson – Ruston (LA) – Elite tight end prospect who will visit Texas twice this fall.

OL Ishmael Camara – Gilmer – Stud prospect. Ranked No. 100 on the Rivals Industry but he’ll continue to climb the ranks.

OL Brian Swanson – South Oak Cliff – He’s been a regular visitor to Austin for recruiting events.

S Eli Johnson – Cibolo Steele – Top national prospect. Schools like Texas, OU, Ohio State and A&M are early contenders.

WR Aden Starling – Shadow Creek – Houston commitment – He committed to UH last year but picked up a Texas offer this summer.
