The Rumor Mill – What we’re hearing on Mateer; Dia Bell update

We look at this week's hot rumors, including what we're hearing on John Mateer's availability against Texas, and an update on UT commitment Dia Bell's recovery from injury.

Texas quarterback signee Dia Bell will head to Austin in January to begin his Longhorn career.

Word began to leak out on Tuesday morning that Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer is expected to give it a go this week against Texas. We had sourcing reach out to us on Monday night, indicating the same thing, per someone close to Mateer. Oklahoma will issue a formal injury report on Wednesday night and we likely won’t hear final word on this until Friday night or maybe even just before kickoff, but OB sources – combined with national reports – have us expecting Mateer to be in action on Saturday afternoon. An Oklahoma source we connected with this week also said Mateer is expecting to play.

Landen Williams-Callis – RB – Richmond Randall (2027)

The state’s top running back in the 2027 class, Landen Williams-Callis, took a visit to Texas A&M last weekend to watch the Aggies defeat Mississippi State and the word coming out of that visit is that A&M made a very strong impression. In fact, Rivals.com recruiting analysts Sam Spiegelman and Steve Wiltfong logged RPM picks for Texas A&M to eventually land the nation’s No. 4-ranked back in the 2027 cycle.

Ismael Camara – OL – Gilmer (2027)

Top 2027 offensive line target Ishmael Camara was another visitor for Texas A&M’s game last weekend. We’re told the Aggies’ staff did a good job of showing Camara a lot of attention despite the large number of recruits that were in attendance, and there’s some thought from national media members that A&M really helped its chances. Texas remains a strong contender for Camara, who was in Austin for the Sam Houston game, but he’ll be one of the hotter prospects in the entire country as he continues to develop and as his recruitment gains momentum.

Dia Bell – QB – American Heritage – Texas commitment

Texas quarterback commitment Dia Bell announced in mid-September that he was shutting down his senior season for an undisclosed injury and “minor procedure” that he needed to be addressed. Bell remains solid with his Texas commitment, he’ll be at the Texas-OU game on Saturday, and he told OB this week that he’s making good progress with his recovery. Bell reports that he’s been cleared to begin jogging and swimming starting next week.
