Orangebloods.com has confirmed that sophomore running back Jerrick Gibson and senior kickoff specialist Will Stone have left the Texas program and will enter the transfer portal in January.
Gibson, a former 4-star running back recruit from the state of Florida, rushed for 152 yards on 37 carries (4.1 YPC) and a touchdown in 4 games this season. As a freshman, Gibson posted 377 yards and 4 touchdowns on 78 carries (4.8 YPC).
The biggest role he had served for the Longhorns was as a possible short-yard back, but ball security issues had even taken that role away from him in recent weeks.
As a high school prospect, Gibson was the prototype 4-star prospect, not quite ranked as a super blue chip (national Top 65-70), but still high enough to excite fans. 247 ranked him as the No.79 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. ESPN had him at .No.59. Rivals had him at No.162, while On3 had him at No.287.
As for Stone, he was expected to be one of the SEC’s best kickoff specialists, but his numbers on kickoffs roughly match transfer Mason Shipley’s (Stone averages slightly less yardage per kick). Transferring and entering the Portal at this point in the season will allow him to save his remaining year of eligibility
The Longhorns are now sitting at 83 scholarships.
