The Texas Longhorns continue to work to fill out the rest of their 2026 recruiting class, a group that already sits in the top five of the national team recruiting rankings. One position the UT staff is looking to add talent is at linebacker. This weekend, Texas hosted Florida State commitment Karon Maycock on an official visit, and things went extremely well.
Maycock got to watch Texas take down a top-10 ranked Vanderbilt team in a contest that went down to the wire, and he said the experience of seeing the Longhorns play in person was a highpoint of the visit.
“(The highlight was) just watching all the players fly around to the ball, making plays on both sides of the ball, offense and defense,” Maycock said.
Texas’ message: become the next great Longhorn linebacker
The 6-1, 208-pound Maycock got to spend some time with the Texas coaches on the visit, with the staff telling him he’d be a good fit in the Longhorns’ defensive scheme, and comparing him to current Texas standout Anthony Hill.
“It was great,” Maycock said of his talks with the staff. “I love the coaches, they love me. We were just talking about football and where I fit in their scheme, and life after football. They talked to me about an Anthony Hill type of role.”
Decision approaching — but no rush
Maycock said he has no firm timeline on when he’ll make a final decision. He’s still committed to FSU, and said Texas is the only other program he’s considering. A tough decision awaits.
“It’s a very close race,” Maycock said.
Ranked as a three-star prospect by all of the recruiting services, Maycock checks in at No. 653 in the Rivals.com Industry Rankings and he’s the nation’s No. 53-ranked linebacker prospect. Along with Florida State and Texas, he holds offers from programs like Alabama, Texas A&M, Florida, LSU, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Penn State, among others.
