Wrap your head around this for a moment — the Texas Longhorn football program is eight days away from the start of spring football. Yes, in just over a week, football returns, and you’ll consume every morsel of information like water on a hike along the Violet Crown Trail.
It feels like yesterday we were debating whether to pack for the Cheez-It Bowl or the Citrus Bowl. Texas closed its season on a high note with a win over Michigan, and Arch Manning capped the 2025 campaign with a performance memorable enough to make much of the college football world reset its already sky-high expectations. Meanwhile, Longhorn observers spent the transfer portal window hitting refresh on their browsers as Texas aggressively stacked talent across the roster. Sure, we devoted weeks to debating whether the offensive line concerns were truly addressed, but set that conversation aside, and there’s broad agreement: the Longhorns upgraded at several key positions.
The offseason didn’t stop there. Steve Sarkisian added Will Muschamp as defensive coordinator — a move designed as much to strengthen the defense as it was to lighten the head coach’s workload. Every assistant hire, every front office addition, and every structural tweak inside the program has been dissected in typical OB fashion.
As spring football approaches, most fans will naturally gravitate toward the obvious storylines. The offensive line will remain a talking point until performance silences the discussion. Position battles will command daily attention. We’ll analyze how transfers and freshmen are absorbing the culture, and we’ll track how new coaches are shaping their position rooms.
However, there is one situation every Longhorn observer should monitor closely this spring.
