The Texas Longhorns have won their second men’s swimming and diving championship in a row

This year’s competition was a lot closer than most would have liked with Florida nipping at the Horns’ heels.  But in the end, the Longhorns’ depth and class was just too much for everyone else.

FINAL TEAM RESULTS

1. Texas 445.5

2. Florida 416

3. Indiana 351

4. Arizona St 328

5. Tennessee 272

6. NC State 258.5

7. California 231

8. Michigan 220

9. Virginia 192

10. Stanford 136

“There’s a thing called Texas fight, and it was on full display today,” said head coach Bob Bowman at the trophy presentation.

Texas separated itself Saturday, led by star swimmer Hubert Kos who destroyed the field in the 200 Backstroke. Kos broke his own NCAA record with a time of 1:34.21.

Florida kept things close, largely due to the swimming of Josh Liendo who was the swimmer of the meet (although Kos was a close second). But in the end, Liendo wasn’t enough.

Not only is this Texas’ second win in a row, it was head coach Bob Bowman’s third in a row. Bowman won the NCAA’s at Arizona State the year prior to being hired away by athletic director Chris Del Conte to come to Austin.

Bowman was all grins as he talked to the team on the podium.

“I love you guys, let’s do another one next year!”
