Former Colorado point guard Isaiah Johnson has committed to the University of Texas. The 6-foot-1 guard from Village Valley, CA, is coming off a strong season, averaging 16.9 points and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 37% from beyond the arc. Johnson also broke Colorado’s all-time freshman scoring record and led all Power 5 freshman guards in scoring efficiency.

Johnson finished top ten in scoring during league play and posted the seventh-highest offensive box plus-minus (OBPM) in the Big 12 last season, earning All-Big 12 Honorable Mention as a true freshman. With 3 years of eligibility remaining, Johnson becomes the point guard Texas fans have been looking for with the chance to cement his name amongst the best that have stepped foot on the Forty Acres.

With his commitment, Texas adds a high-level guard who immediately strengthens its backcourt for next season. Johnson projects as a key piece and, under Sean Miller, is expected to thrive in his system. He is expected to compete for a starting role as the Longhorns continue to reshape their roster, but all signs point to him being the clear frontrunner at the point guard position

Johnson becomes one of the first major additions of the offseason for head coach Sean Miller as Texas looks to build out its rotation through the transfer portal.
