Wide receiver Briceson Thrower has committed to Texas, announcing his decision moments ago and becoming the latest addition to the Longhorns’ class.
The talented pass-catcher from North Forney chose the Longhorns over a final grouping that included Illinois, Texas Tech and Texas A&M. Thrower, who had Texas high on his list throughout his recruitment, highlighted Texas’ player development both on and off the field as a reason the Longhorns were always in good standing with him.
“I really just want to go somewhere and be able to get developed, on and off the field,” Thrower told OB in the spring. “I want to be getting coached up outside of football, I want to be built up to be a better man.”
Thrower mentioned the personal connection he built with Texas wide receivers coach Chris Jackson during his visits to the UT campus, or the times Jackson visited him at his school. One of those key visits to the Forty Acres was a March stop for a UT junior day and a Texas practice.
“(The junior day visit) really just showed me how (Jackson) is in person,” Thrower explained. “I’ve been on the phone with him, texting, but he really sat down with me and talked ball, different plays and showed me how college is.”
That in-person interaction stood out in a crowded recruiting process, giving Thrower confidence that Texas offered the environment and coaching staff he was seeking. Jackson’s detailed approach to scheme, technique, and life skills resonated deeply with the prospect.
A silver-level prospect, Thrower is ranked as a three-star prospect by all three major recruiting services. He ranks. No. 413 on the Rivals Industry Rankings. Thrower becomes the Longhorns’ second wide receiver commitment, joining Easton Royal. Thrower will take his Texas official visit later this month.
