Fort Myers defensive tackle Kendall Guervil has been pretty open over the past two months about Texas being his leader. He said it when he took an unofficial visit in the spring, and he told OB coming out of his Texas official visit on June 22 that Texas had only solidified its spot atop his list. It felt at that time that this one was pretty much a done deal, but you can never make assumptions in the days of NIL.
Word going around the past few days has had Florida surging. I hit up a Florida source today and was told the expectation in Gainesville is that Guervil will commit to the Gators when he announces on Wednesday. This person did leave a little room for wiggle room if Texas counters with another NIL offer of its own, but that’s not expected as of right now.
Texas has a three-man DT class of Dylan Berymon, Corey Wells and Vodney Cleveland, so the Longhorns aren’t exactly hurting or in desperation mode at the position. Florida, on the other hand, has only one DT pledge (3-star Jamir Perez) so the Gators probably feel the need to be a bit more aggressive. If the confidence coming out of Florida is accurate, it seems to be paying off (literally).
